It’s clean up NZ week and for the second year running we went to our localpond to pull out rubbish. I am pleased to say we got less rubbish than last year, although it would be nice if there was no rubbish! The type of rubbish we got was different too, last year it was a lot of builders waste due to the many homes being built in our area at the time. It was blowing from the sites and into the pond. This year it was due to visitor waste and a big part of that was probably due to the fact that there are no bins at the pond. The council are still to install those! So here’s some shots from our lovely  pond and my kids doing there  bit to keep NZ green! The photo’s above show why we think it’s so important.

This weeks 2 things challenge is cause/effect. The cause and effect here is pretty obvious I think although I love the continuing cycle that nature sets up…the tree flowers and drops the petals, the petals decompose and feed the tree. Natural cause and effect!

Copyright Lisa Sarsfield 2009I took the kids fishing (with the bait catcher) but the weather turned on us and the wind made the water far to choppu for the little bait catcher! After about half and hour we conceeded that it wasn’t the right conditions for it and went for a walk over the Matapihi Brige!

I say last shot..but this was actually the first shot! I mean that this is the last in the Kaiate Falls series. I’m taking the kids wharf fishing today so no doubt I will take my camera with me and snap a few while there!

This series of 3 small falls is at the end of the first set of steps. A sign further up says  it used to be a shag rookery many years ago but I definitely didn’t spot any shags when we went there! I am not sure what happened to the rookery, but I am assuming  the increased presence of people had something to do with it! We didn’t really see any birds, although you could hear them once you distanced yourself from the sound of the falls.

The walk down was steep…the walk back up was just as steep! This is not a walk for those afraid to get a little blood pumping! My leg muscles definately recieved a work out but as the saying goes…no pain! no gain! This is a beautiful waterfall.

The misty look in this photo is caused by the airborne spray of the waterfall. This is one of 2 landings we visited with waterfalls, the other one had 2 small ones. I will post pics of them tomorrow.
