This weeks 2 things challenge is cause/effect. The cause and effect here is pretty obvious I think although I love the continuing cycle that nature sets up…the tree flowers and drops the petals, the petals decompose and feed the tree. Natural cause and effect!

These little furry, almond shaped flower buds will soon be wonderful Magnolia flowers. I was excited to see so many promised flowers on these young trees! I’m  not sure how long it takes for the cycle to go from bud to flower but I will be watching:)

One of the many flowers I discovered on my board walk was this large purple bloom.  It’s face upturned to the morning sun cast the lovely shaddow of the delicate stamen’s back on to the petals. It’s neighbour, a honey-suckle  looked equally pleased to see the morning!

I was at ‘my’ pond with the kids so I decided to see what this plant was looking like now. You may remember it from my flower and beetle post. This is it again although minus the beetle and with the addition of the bee!

I’m always excited to get shots like this where the bee is in focus and you can see the motion of it’s wings. Below is another photo of the same plant, the star shaped head that’s left behind when the flowers have gone. Such a pretty weed!

I took a break from the challenges for a while but I have restructured myself a bit and I hope to do the odd challenge now and then. This one is for LENSDAY and the theme is GROWTH. I photographed this fennel bud this afternoon and thought it would make a good candidate for the theme. I needed no excuses to photograph it! I  love the beautiful structure of fennel and these nest-like balls that some how open up into the white flowers that seem to be bobbing in sections and on roadsides everywhere at the moment. One of the better spring/ summer time flowers in my mind even if its technically a weed!
